About this Position The School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) within the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT) is seeking an Accounting Specialist to support financial operations within the school. The Accounting Specialist supports the MAE Accountant to manage financial records as required for management decisions and compliance with University, State, and Federal audit regulations. Monitors expenditures and income related to MAE instructional, organized research, sponsored research, lab/services accounts, and OSU Foundation accounts for the MAE Labs. This position is responsible for handling and managing several financial matters of the department, including but not limited to: P-card purchases, travel, departmental expenses, scholarships, OSU Foundation contributions and disbursements, assisting with monthly reconciliations, payroll processing, and employment actions. Record keeping of financial matters and reports as necessary. The Accounting Specialist will provide additional support and assistance to the MAE Accountant in all matters as needed. Required Qualifications High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
Accounting Specialist:
Two years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or related field.
Senior Accounting Specialist:
Three years of experience accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or related field. Post-secondary education may substitute for years of required experience. Skills, Proficiencies, and/or
Knowledge:
Knowledge of principles, methods, and practices related to accounting/bookkeeping activities. Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment. Ability to maintain confidential information. Ability to manage several projects and tasks simultaneously. Strong problem-solving skills. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. Ability to provide excellent customer service. Ability to work independently while managing competing priorities and performing under tight deadlines. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Ability to work in a team environment and meet OSU accounting and payroll deadlines. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or closely related field Bachelor's degree from an accredited University or two years of post-secondary studies is preferred, and one or more years of staff, administrative, or clerical/accounting experience within a University structure to attain protocol and functional expertise. At least one year of professional accounting or related finance experience. Skills, Proficiencies, and/or
Knowledge:
Highly developed organizational skill required to manage multiple demands and highly diversified and complex tasks with autonomy. Good computer skills required, together with solid experience with relevant word processing, spreadsheet, business and accounting software preferred. Ability to exercise independent judgment and deal diplomatically in areas of sensitive nature.
