Job Description

We are looking for an Accountant to oversee core accounting operations and support accurate financial reporting for a growing nonprofit organization. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting specialist who can manage daily financial activities, maintain strong internal controls, and contribute to a reliable month-end close process. The successful candidate will bring nonprofit accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to work effectively across both transactional and reporting functions. This role is best suited for an accounting professional who enjoys being involved in the day-to-day accounting functions rather than operating strictly in a supervisory capacity. Prior nonprofit and fund accounting experience is required, along with the ability to independently manage the organization's full-cycle accounting processes.
Responsibilities:
Own the full-cycle accounting function for the organization, serving as a hands-on contributor to the day-to-day accounting operations. Manage the general ledger, prepare routine and adjusting journal entries, and maintain accurate financial records. Oversee all accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, ensuring timely processing, proper coding, and complete documentation. Perform account reconciliations, including detailed bank reconciliations, and resolve discrepancies as needed. Lead the monthly and year-end close processes, preparing supporting schedules and validating account balances. Prepare accurate financial statements, board reports, and management reports that reflect organizational and fund performance. Maintain and track restricted and unrestricted funds in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards and reporting requirements. Support annual audit activities by gathering documentation, responding to auditor requests, and assisting with year-end deliverables. Develop, improve, and maintain accounting procedures and internal controls to ensure accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency. Partner with leadership by providing financial information and insights to support organizational decision-making. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred. 3+ years of progressive accounting experience with responsibility for full-cycle accounting functions. Prior nonprofit accounting experience is required. Strong hands-on experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close. Proven experience managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and day-to-day accounting operations. Experience preparing financial statements and financial reports for management, boards, or external stakeholders. Familiarity supporting external audits and maintaining audit-ready documentation. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently in a hands-on accounting environment. Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
