Position Summary The Staff Accountant contributes to the smooth and efficient operations of the Business Office resulting in a maximum positive impact on the District by providing financial information, analyzing and reconciling accounts, and properly coding line-item receipts and expenditures using budget codes as defined by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities Financial Reporting & Audit Support:
Assist with month-end and fiscal year-end closing processes, verify the proper posting of receipts, checks, and journal entries, and support the preparation of external audits and the Annual Financial Report (AFR).
Budgeting & Financial Analysis:
Monitor assigned general ledger activities, analyze revenues and expenditures to support accurate monthly forecasts, and assist with creating compliant budget codes aligned with Pennsylvania Department of Education guidelines during the annual budgeting process.
Reconciliations & Account Management:
Perform routine reconciliations for banking, vendor, and general ledger accounts; accurately process and code vendor invoices, electronic transactions, and employee travel/mileage requests for payment.
Systems Oversight & Data Integrity:
Maintain continuous checks of accounting systems to ensure data accuracy, generate standard financial reports using accepted accounting practices, and actively identify workflow improvements to enhance daily operational efficiency.
Records Management & Documentation:
Organize and maintain secure departmental document systems, databases, and online tools, ensuring all administrative transactions are fully documented in strict compliance with District record retention policies and procedures.
Serve as a collaborative, highly confidential resource for Central Administration, District staff, parents, vendors, and community stakeholders to address inquiries, maintain positive working relationships, and support broader Business Office operations.
Professional Discretion & Decision-Making:
Exercise independent decision-making within established position parameters and District policies, escalating complex or non-routine issues to the Manager of Accounting and Budget as appropriate.
Other Duties:
Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor, Director, Superintendent, or designee, including adapting to evolving procedures, technologies, or state mandates. Education and/or Experience Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance preferred or equivalent training and experience. Entry level experience with an Accounting degree or at least two years of related accounting experience preferred. Experience and skilled in using electronic communication methods and software programs, including Microsoft Office Suite.
