Position Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented Bookkeeper / Staff Accountant to join our accounting team at a growing fuel wholesale and distribution company. This position will support the day-to-day accounting operations of the business, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash and bank reconciliations, fuel inventory and transaction reconciliation, general ledger maintenance, and month-end close activities. The ideal candidate is highly organized, comfortable working with large volumes of financial transactions, and able to identify and resolve discrepancies quickly. Experience in fuel distribution, petroleum, transportation, logistics, or a similar high-volume industry is a plus. Key Responsibilities Maintain accurate and timely accounting records for daily business transactions. Process and reconcile fuel purchases, sales, deliveries, and related invoices . Manage accounts payable, including reviewing vendor invoices, matching invoices to supporting documentation, and preparing payments. Manage accounts receivable, including customer invoicing, payment posting, account reconciliation, and collection support. Reconcile customer and vendor accounts and investigate discrepancies. Perform daily and monthly bank and credit card reconciliations . Reconcile fuel delivery records, invoices, pricing, quantities, and related charges. Assist with tracking and reconciling fuel inventory and inventory-related adjustments. Record and maintain general ledger transactions and prepare journal entries. Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close. Prepare account reconciliations, schedules, and financial reports for management. Monitor outstanding customer balances and assist with credit and collections activities. Verify pricing, freight, taxes, fees, and other charges associated with fuel transactions. Maintain accurate documentation for purchases, sales, deliveries, payments, and other accounting transactions. Assist with sales tax, fuel tax, and other regulatory or compliance-related accounting requirements. Work closely with operations, sales, dispatch, and management to research and resolve accounting discrepancies. Assist the CFO and outside accounting professionals with audits, tax filings, and year-end activities. Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and internal controls. Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned. Qualifications 2-5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience. Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and general ledger accounting. Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and month-end close. Strong Excel skills and comfort working with large data sets. Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar systems. Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, transaction-heavy environment. Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with both accounting and operations personnel. Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial and customer information. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CPA-track experience is a plus but not required. Experience in fuel wholesale, petroleum, energy, transportation, logistics, or distribution . Experience reconciling inventory or high-volume commodity transactions. Familiarity with fuel taxes, sales taxes, or petroleum-related regulatory reporting. Experience with fuel delivery, dispatch, terminal, rack, or transportation documentation. Experience with ERP/accounting systems used in distribution or wholesale businesses. Knowledge of GAAP.
