Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Create and post journal entries using both accrual and cash accounting methods to keep financial records complete and accurate.
- Examine financial statements, identify notable fluctuations, and research the drivers behind material variances.
- Work with operations and accounts payable personnel to confirm transactions are assigned to the correct accounts and classifications.
- Monitor accounts receivable activity and review tenant or customer ledger details to support accurate balances.
- Complete monthly bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies until outstanding items are resolved.
- Assemble quarterly reporting packages for lenders and other stakeholders, ensuring information is organized and reliable.
- Reconcile mortgage activity and record expenses such as real estate taxes, school taxes, and insurance payments.
- Contribute to month-end and year-end close processes and assist with special projects and requested financial analyses.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- At least 1 year of accounting experience, with 2 or more years preferred in a staff accounting or similar role.
- Hands-on experience preparing journal entries, maintaining general ledger accuracy, and performing bank reconciliations.
- Familiarity with tax-related accounting, including exposure to corporate, sales, or other state and federal tax filings.
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working within accounting and financial reporting systems.
- Ability to analyze data, solve problems efficiently, and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills combined with strong attention to detail and organization.
- Experience with Yardi is beneficial but not required.
