This role is designed to grow. As you demonstrate mastery of the accounting fundamentals below, responsibilities will expand into financial reporting, budgeting, purchasing controls, and eventually full P&L ownership as Controller. Key Responsibilities Month-End Close and General Ledger
- Own the monthly close process in QuickBooks Online Advanced across multiple entities
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, depreciation, and interest true-ups on notes payable
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly (bank, intercompany, fixed assets, notes payable)
- Investigate and clear miscoded transactions and placeholder entries in a timely manner Accounts Payable / Accounts Receivable Oversight
- Support AP and AR staff with escalations, vendor reconciliations, and aging review
- Monitor AR aging (via Aspire) and help drive collection follow-up on past-due accounts
- Enforce purchasing controls and vendor approval workflows Payroll and Departmental Reporting
- Partner with payroll (ADP) to ensure accurate department/class coding across entities
- Assist in building and maintaining recurring management reports (payroll trends, controllable expense tracking, class-level P&L detail) for operational managers
- Help maintain manager-facing dashboards that give department leaders the cost data they need to make decisions —without exposing company-wide net income or gross margin Intercompany and Multi-Entity Accounting
- Track and reconcile intercompany balances and cost allocations across the four entities
- Support the annual consolidation of Floralawn and Floralawn 2
- Maintain clean, audit-ready documentation for allocations that affect entity-level and consolidated results Cost Control Support
- Assist in monitoring controllable expense categories against revenue-driven targets
- Flag cost overruns (materials, subcontractor, fleet, etc.) to leadership with supporting detail
- Support vendor invoice reconciliation (e.g., materials vendors) to keep the GL current and accurate Month-End Closing
- Lead the monthly close independently with minimal oversight
- Own the annual budgeting and flex-budget process
- Manage lender reporting and covenant compliance
- Supervise AP/AR staff directly Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
- 3+ years of accounting experience; multi-entity or field-services industry experience a plus.
- Strong hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online (Advanced preferred)
- Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, formulas)
- Experience with payroll systems (ADP) and job-costing/purchasing platforms (Aspire or similar) a plus
- High attention to detail and comfort working with sensitive, confidential financial information
- Strong communicator who can explain financial concepts clearly to non-financial operational managers
- Self-starter who takes ownership and wants to grow into a leadership role over time Reporting Structure Reports to ownership and outside financial consulting leadership during the transition period.
