FOUNDATION & GENERAL ACCOUNTANT

Library 21c | 40 hours per week

Location:

Starting Wage:

$26.09 per hour

Position Hours:

40 hours per week per the following schedule: Monday

Position Summary Operates in a diverse environment to help fulfill the Library's mission by maintaining financial records and reporting functions, by providing general financial operating support for the Library Foundation and the District. Essential Functions Functions listed are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. § Perform monthly and yearly closing procedures by recording complex journal entries, reviewing general ledger accounts for accuracy and reconciling accounts including bank accounts. Assist with month and year end processes and transition to new year activity. § Assist management with analysis on reports for accuracy, clarifies and communicates results with management to produce accurate financial data, assisting in preparation of monthly financial statements for the Library Foundation. § Assist with the annual audit process by meeting timelines established through a project plan, preparing audit work papers requested by the auditors, ensuring necessary year-end close procedures are performed in a timely and accurate manner. Act as a liaison between the Library Foundation and the auditors. § Reconcile and account for contributions, restricted funds, investments and other Foundation financial activity in accordance with applicable accounting standards. § Assist in the preparation of annual financial statements for the Foundation in compliance with FASB and form 990 as needed. § Prepare, assist, and maintain grant accounting, reporting, and applications; assist with the annual budget process. § Process purchase requisitions and orders ensuring proper documentation and compliance with the Library Foundation's and Library District's purchasing policies and procedures. Additional Duties and Responsibilities Duties are considered non-essential and include the following: § Keeps informed about Library District and departmental information § Attends regular department meetings and scheduled all-staff meetings § Work on special projects as needed and act as a Finance department liaison within the District. § Provides backup support for other Finance functions as operationally necessary. § Maintain working knowledge of District purchasing policies, procedures, and financial systems requirements. § Maintain professional knowledge of non-profit and governmental accounting practices applicable to assigned responsibilities. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The employee is expected to perform or possess the following: § Thorough knowledge of Pikes Peak Library District's policies and procedures and ability to follow them. § Ability to act as an ambassador of Pikes Peak Library District by promoting its mission and vision. § Thorough knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB). § Understanding of Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and its requirements. § Develops and maintains relationships with both internal and external customers of the Finance department including with employees at all levels. § Demonstrates trustworthiness, diplomacy, and maintains confidentiality in all responsibilities. § Work closely with all major functional leaders of the Finance Department and other District Leadership. § Ability to use applications software including Microsoft 365 applications, specialized software, along with standard office equipment. § Ability to organize daily work and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, detail-rich environment. § Works independently and as part of a team, demonstrates initiative in learning and taking on new tasks and responsibilities with limited guidance. § Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills. § Has regular on-time attendance. § Exercise professionalism and good judgement in interpersonal interactions.

Education and Experience:

§ Bachelor's degree in accounting is required. § Four years of accounting experience (all aspects), including two years of audit experience is required. Six years of accounting experience is preferred. § Government accounting experience, knowledge of

GAAP, GASB, FASB

standards, and governmental accounting policies and procedures is required. § Non-profit accounting experience is preferred.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:

Work is primarily conducted in an office setting that provides comfortable lighting, temperature, and air conditions. Position requires the ability to sit and use a computer or standard office equipment for extended periods. Position requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time. Position requires the ability to occasionally reach, bend, climb, twist, and squat. Position requires the ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 30 pounds. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices or meeting rooms, e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls and observance of fire regulations. This position is eligible for telecommuting with supervisor approval and based on employee performance. Employees will be required to attend in-person meetings, trainings, or events at the Library as directed by their supervisor or as necessary for the performance of their job duties.
