Job Description

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Accounting & Tax Associate to join our team. As an Accounting & Tax Associate, you will play a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records and assisting in various accounting and tax preparation tasks. Your primary responsibilities will revolve around transaction import, categorization, communication with the accountant and clients, reconciliations, and preparation for financial advisory and tax appointments. Your contributions will directly impact our clients' financial well-being and the success of our firm. Key Tasks and Responsibilities Transaction Import
  • Gather financial data through bank feeds, transaction files, spreadsheets, or manual input on a semi-monthly basis.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of transaction data.
Categorization:
Accurately categorize transactions on a semi-monthly basis to facilitate proper accounting and reporting "Ask My Accountant" Tasks
  • Identify and compile a list of questionable transactions.
  • Perform simple Google searches to seek general answers to queries related to these transactions (up to 2 minutes per query).
  • Engage with the supervisor on a semi-monthly basis to discuss and seek guidance on questionable transactions.
  • Communicate with clients on a semi-monthly basis to address any uncertainties or discrepancies. Create Notes & Rules
  • Document responses and guidance received from the accountant to create reference notes and rules.
  • Develop a knowledge base for handling similar transactions in the future Reconcile
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of financial data to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Save bank statements in the designated Banking folder in the shared Drive for record-keeping purposes. Scheduling Appointments / Check-Ups
  • Coordinate and schedule advisory appointments with the senior advisor/accountant, to discuss financial matters and strategies.
  • Conduct periodic check-ups with clients to assess their needs and offer support in various aspects of their business. Business Health Reports
  • Generate and present P&L and Balance Sheet to clients on a quarterly basis, highlighting key financial insights.
  • Prepare necessary documentation and reports for advisory appointments.
Tax Preparation Consult with clients to develop a basic understanding of their financial affairs and the scope of their tax liabilities. Review previous tax returns and financial documents to identify missing or incomplete information or documentation. Review all supplied financial information for accuracy. Use the appropriate accounting software or system to prepare tax returns. Calculate taxes owed or refunds due to client; consult tax law publications for guidance on unusual situations. Submit tax returns to accountant for review. Present approved returns to clients. File tax returns for clients. Maintain understanding and knowledge of changes in tax law by reading professional literature or attending tax seminars and training courses. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications and Skills
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or a related field.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and tools, including but not limited to QuickBooks, Payroll Software, Accounting CS.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and categorization.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with the team, supervisor, accountant, and clients.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Problem-solving abilities to address questionable transactions and seek appropriate solutions.
  • Proactive approach to scheduling and coordinating appointments.
  • Ability to understand and apply tax laws and changes in the preparation process.
  • Tax preparation experience required.
  • Accurate math and accounting skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn tax accounting and preparation software.
  • Associate degree or higher level of education highly preferred.
Pay:
$60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
