Originating as a metal fabrication company, Breakform Construction is renowned for its meticulous attention to detail and its use of raw materials such as glass, metal, wood, concrete, and landscape to craft timeless, authentic designs. We are based in Los Angeles and are looking for local candidates who can commit to a hybrid schedule. Position Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented Construction Staff Accountant to support our accounting and project teams. This role manages day-to-day accounting across our design, construction, and fabrication divisions, with a strong focus on job costing, accounts payable and receivable, and month-end closing. The ideal candidate understands how construction projects are billed and tracked, and helps keep our cash flow healthy and our financial records accurate. This is a growth opportunity as training for development will be invested in this position. Key Responsibilities Accounts Payable & Receivable Process vendor and subcontractor invoices, coding each one to the correct job, cost code, and GL account. Verify that lien waivers, insurance certificates, and other compliance documents are in place before payments are released. Prepare check runs and ACH payments, and keep vendor records and W-9s up to date. Record client payments, track retainage receivable and payable, and follow up on past-due balances. Support monthly progress billing (AIA

) by giving Project Managers and Project Administrators accurate cost and billing data. Job Costing & Reporting Maintain accurate job cost records and reconcile committed costs, change orders, and actual costs to budgets. Prepare work-in-progress (WIP) schedules, budget-vs-actual reports, and over/under billing analysis. Track costs across the design, construction, and fabrication divisions, including materials, labor, and equipment. Give Project Managers regular job cost reports and flag variances early. General Ledger & Month-End Close Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations. Prepare journal entries, accruals, and supporting schedules for month-end close. Help prepare financial statements and cash flow reports for management. Support year-end close, 1099 filings, audits, and requests from outside CPAs. Compliance & Document Control Track and keep current subcontractor insurance certificates, licenses, and contract documents. Maintain organized digital records of invoices, contracts, change orders, and executed lien releases. Help with sales/use tax, business license renewals, and other regulatory filings as needed. Support payroll processing and job-cost labor allocation as needed. Qualifications 2-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry. Strong working knowledge of job costing, AIA billing, retainage, and lien waiver requirements. Proficient in QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables), and Adobe Acrobat. Solid understanding of GAAP and accrual-basis accounting. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet month-end deadlines. Preferred Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Students in accounting majors. Experience with construction software (QuickBooks Online, Buildertrend, Excel). Experience with both commercial and residential construction projects. Familiarity with certified payroll and prevailing wage reporting. Bilingual a plus.
