Senior Accountant Location:

Classification:
Full-Time, Exempt Compensation:

What You'll Do In this role, you will: Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for assigned clients and build trusted, long-term professional relationships. Participate in a combination of audit and assurance and client accounting engagements based on client needs, experience, and team capacity. Lead and execute audits, reviews, compilations, and other assurance procedures, including planning, risk assessment, internal control evaluation, substantive testing, and financial statement preparation. Prepare and review workpapers and financial statements for accuracy, completeness, proper documentation, and compliance with applicable professional standards. Support recurring client accounting engagements, including financial reporting, account analysis, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial information review. Analyze financial results and communicate meaningful trends, observations, and opportunities to clients and engagement leaders. Work directly with business owners, controllers, accounting personnel, bankers, and other professional advisors. Identify opportunities to improve clients' accounting processes, internal controls, reporting, and overall financial management. Research and resolve accounting, auditing, and financial reporting matters, involving managers or partners when appropriate. Coordinate engagement timelines, client requests, and deliverables to ensure work is completed accurately and on schedule. Supervise, mentor, and train staff accountants and interns, providing timely feedback and guidance. Collaborate across Cooper Norman's service lines to connect clients with the firm's broader resources and expertise. Develop a strong understanding of each client's business, industry, goals, and challenges to provide proactive, relevant guidance. Build relationships within the Utah business community and represent Cooper Norman professionally with clients, referral sources, and business contacts. Perform responsibilities with limited supervision while demonstrating sound professional judgment, ownership, and accountability. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting. 3-5 years of accounting experience, public accounting is strongly preferred. Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, Certified Management Accountant (CMA) credential, or another relevant professional accounting credential. A major plus! Ability to manage multiple client engagements, deadlines, and competing priorities. Strong analytical skills and sound professional judgment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with business owners, client personnel, and professional advisors. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with partners, managers, and team members. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other accounting software. Experience with audit and assurance, client accounting services, or both. Leadership Responsibilities The FAS Senior Accountant needs to be able to supervise and mentor staff accountants and interns on assigned engagements and projects effectively.
Schedule Hybrid Schedule:
3 Days In-Office, 2 Days Remote. This position typically works Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Mountain Time. Additional hours may be required during periods of increased client and engagement activity. Work Environment and Physical Requirements This position operates primarily in a professional office environment and routinely uses computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and other standard office equipment. The role is primarily sedentary and regularly requires sitting, standing, walking, speaking, hearing, reaching, and operating office equipment. Occasional filing and office tasks may require bending, standing, opening filing cabinets, and lifting or moving files weighing up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 25 pounds occasionally. Required visual abilities include close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
