Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Applies principles of accounting to record financial information and create financial reports related to Summit Utilities, Inc. and subsidiaries' activities and records.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Analyze and complete both standard and complex journal entries in accordance with month-end close schedule pertaining to payroll and expensesPrepare all entries in accordance with the deadlines per the close calendarPerform trend analysis on accounts as assignedReconcile balance sheet accounts on a monthly basisInitiate ideas for process improvements and engage in the successful implementation of those ideasPrepare work in an organized and thorough manner ensuring ease of management reviewIndependently resolve issuesWork closely with the State Ops and FP&A departments on coding, research and questionsWork on special projects, engaging individuals within the department as well as externally to see initiatives to their completionPrepare for and assist in completing annual audit including:Complete PBC schedules on a timely basisMaintain accounting in compliance with GAAP and regulatory authoritiesRespond to auditors' questions in accordance with corporate policies and procedures
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in accounting requiredMinimum 3 years of accounting experience requiredRegulated utility accounting a plusProficiency in the use of Excel requiredKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP)Ability to maintain motivation and focus to complete tasks within required timelines Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks within tight timeframesPossesses strong organizational and project-planning skillsWork requires professional written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work well in a team and independently The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this classification.
