Job Description

Position Overview We are a custom home builder based in Westport, CT seeking a Staff Accountant to take ownership of the financial side of our construction operations. This role is hands-on and critical to keeping our projects financially organized, accurate, and moving forward. Our accounting Department operates out of Florida. You'll be responsible for managing day-to-day accounting, job cost tracking, and ensuring all systems primarily QuickBooks, Google sheets and Bill.com are up to date and aligned with active construction projects. This is a great opportunity for someone who understands both accounting and how construction projects actually run. Key Responsibilities Construction Accounting & Job Costing Track and manage job costs across multiple custom home projects Ensure all expenses are coded correctly to jobs, phases, and cost codes Monitor budgets vs. actuals and flag variances to leadership Assist with draw schedules and lender reporting Accounts Payable & Bill Management Process vendor invoices through Bill.com Maintain accurate approval workflows and payment schedules Coordinate with project managers to verify invoices and progress billing Manage subcontractor payments and documentation (W-9s, COIs, lien waivers) QuickBooks Management Maintain and update QuickBooks Online on a daily/weekly basis Ensure all transactions are properly recorded and categorized Sync and manage integration between QuickBooks and Bill.com Reconciliations & Month-End Close Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations Complete month-end close processes accurately and on time Prepare financial reports including P&L by job, cash flow, and balance sheet Assist with year-end close and coordination with CPA Financial Organization & Reporting Maintain organized financial records for all projects Assist leadership with cost analysis and financial insights Help improve processes for better cost control and visibility Qualifications 3+ years of accounting experience (construction industry strongly preferred) Strong experience with QuickBooks Online and Bill.com Understanding of job costing and construction accounting Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines at once Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment Preferred (But Not Required) Experience working with custom home builders or developers Familiarity with construction draws and lender requirements Experience with project management software (Buildertrend or similar) Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary based on experience Opportunity to grow with a high-end custom home builder Flexible, team-oriented work environmen
