$80,000 to $115,000 About the Opportunity A growing accounting and consulting firm is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant, Consulting to join its fast paced and collaborative team in Calumet City, Illinois. This role is ideal for a governmental accounting professional who enjoys working directly with clients, providing practical accounting guidance, improving internal controls, and supporting organizations with budgeting, reporting, compliance, and operational needs. The successful candidate will deliver high quality consulting services to a diverse client base while also supporting and mentoring Associates throughout the engagement process. Key Responsibilities Develop a strong understanding of each client's needs, expectations, and operational objectives. Build the technical knowledge required to perform consulting assignments independently. Lead Associates through the consulting process, including bookkeeping, payroll, internal controls, budgeting, and related deliverables. Provide accounting, bookkeeping, and operational support to clients. Travel to client sites within approximately 20 miles of the office as needed. Review substantive and analytical procedures in assigned areas. Facilitate fieldwork and monitor engagement budgets, job time, and deadlines. Coordinate deliverables with external auditors where required. Establish strong client relationships and maintain open lines of communication. Anticipate client concerns, address issues, and communicate matters to Managers. Identify internal control deficiencies and communicate findings to Managers and clients. Support grant compliance, budget analysis, customized reporting for Boards and Committees, and other client consulting needs. Identify opportunities to improve client performance, efficiency, and internal processes. Recognize opportunities to expand the services provided to existing clients. Stay current with accounting and consulting developments through continuing education, professional publications, networking, and professional organizations. Participate in firm networking activities with clients and prospective clients. Apply the firm's consulting approach and maintain a high standard of client service. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Minimum of 3 years of experience in governmental accounting. Understanding of GAAP, GAAS, and GASB regulations. Completion of the required 150 credit hours to sit for the CPA examination. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office applications. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work independently while also supporting and mentoring junior staff. Ability to manage multiple client assignments, deadlines, and priorities. Preferred Qualifications Active CPA license. Experience with governmental, nonprofit, or public sector organizations. Experience with internal controls, grant compliance, budgeting, or financial reporting. Strong client relationship management and consulting skills.
