Job Description

Senior Staff Accountant What's Awesome About Our Client? They're a Bozeman based outdoor company with revenue streams in media and e-commerce. Unlimited opportunity to learn more by exposure to new revenue streams and accounting situations. Hybrid work environment with work-life balance. Excellent mentorship opportunity from the Controller and CFO. Why This Job - Senior Staff Accountant We have partnered with a well-known outdoor company that has exploded in growth over the last 10 years. They have grown through their reputation, media presence, brand acquisitions and company culture. They are looking for a Senior Staff Accountant to join their 6 person accounting team. This isn't an 'update close' kind of a role. It's a role where some days you'll be updating the inventory and cash side of a multi-brand business. Other days you're working on the media licensing and ad revenue from their shows and podcasts. They are looking for someone who is interested in taking the manual grind out of the seat and moving it towards building real processes and finding automation in tools and AI. The role has plenty of room to grow. They envision this role eventually evolving into an Accounting Manager for the right person. If you're looking for a role in the outdoor industry that is also a career accelerator, this is a great (and rare) opportunity here in Bozeman.
What You'll Actually Do:
Own your half of the month-end close. Journal entries, accruals and prepaids, fixed assets, bank and credit card reconciliations, key GL reconciliations, and hitting the close calendar. Be the person who knows where the inventory actually is. Four brands, and four different ways inventory moves: two manufacture in-house, one imports domestically, one imports internationally. Nobody else on the team carries all of that in one head, and you'll work straight with the supply chain and operations people to keep the data honest. Own landed cost and COGS analysis. They're rebuilding this process right now specifically so this seat reviews and steps in on exceptions instead of doing it by hand. You get to finish that overhaul, which means you also get to decide what it turns into. Build the cash forecast out of the vendor invoices and POs. This isn't a report that gets filed. It's how leadership sees the big expenditures coming through the year, and they want somebody who owns that function end to end. Reconcile the direct-to-consumer money across the e-commerce and marketplace platforms, plus cash receipts and intercompany. Revenue lands in several places before it ever reaches the GL, and the inventory behind it has to land in the right bucket on the way. Pull the schedules for the year-end audit, the tax return, and the annual inventory valuation. Their debt facility lends against inventory and receivables, so that valuation is effectively a second audit every year with a real deadline behind it. Review the sales tax compliance the software handles, and find the parts of the process that are still clunky. They actively want AI used to take work out, so whatever you fix, you get to write down as the way it's done.
What You Bring:
2-3 years of accounting experience and a solid grounding in GAAP. A start in public accounting is preferred, but they're open to those with exposure to complex accounting structures. Exposure to inventory accounting or inventory planning is a huge plus. Strong Excel and real comfort with big data sets. NetSuite puts you near the front of the line and Power Query is a bonus, but they'll train the systems if the rest is there. An accounting degree, or a finance degree with real accounting work behind it. A CPA is welcome and not required. Somebody who takes the recurring work and asks why it's done that way, instead of doing it how they were taught and clocking out.
Where and How Much:
Location:
Bozeman, MT with a hybrid work schedule.
Compensation:
$80,000 to $85,000 plus bonus.
Benefits:
Exceptional health benefits, a 401(k) with a 4 percent match, unlimited PTO where management pushes people to take around three weeks. Plus steep discounts and free product dollars across all their brands, outdoor industry pro deals, up to $100 back on hunting tags, dogs in the office, and the whole company flown into Bozeman every summer.
Schedule:
Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 4:30, flexible around the edges. Busier in late fall and early spring when inventory appraisals, audit and tax stack up. They'd expect nine hour days at the very worst, and called that a stretch.

$80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
