THE OPPORTUNITY
Help build the financial systems, reporting, and controls behind a growing construction and real estate organization. King Built Properties is seeking an experienced, highly capable Senior Staff Accountant to support the financial operations of our growing construction, real estate development, and property-related businesses. We are looking for more than someone who can enter transactions and reconcile accounts. The right candidate will understand the full accounting cycle, produce accurate financial information, identify discrepancies, improve systems, and help ownership make better business decisions. This role is ideal for an experienced accountant who can work independently, manage competing priorities, and take ownership of important financial responsibilities. We are open to local, hybrid, and highly qualified remote candidates, as well as relocation for the right person. Primary Responsibilities Manage and support the full accounting cycle across multiple entities. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports. Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate transaction coding. Perform bank, credit card, loan, and balance-sheet reconciliations. Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes. Prepare journal entries, accruals, allocations, and adjustments. Monitor cash flow, financial commitments, and upcoming obligations. Track project costs, development expenses, and construction-related financial activity. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. Coordinate with outside CPAs, tax professionals, lenders, banks, and other financial partners. Prepare supporting documentation for tax preparation, audits, financing, and lender requirements. Improve accounting processes, internal controls, reporting systems, and financial workflows. Construction and Real Estate Accounting Experience in construction, real estate, development, or another project-based accounting environment is highly desirable.
Relevant experience may include:
Job-cost accounting and project profitability reporting. Construction-in-progress accounting. Development and property-level accounting. Multi-entity and intercompany accounting. Construction loan and draw reconciliation. Tracking retainage, deposits, reimbursements, and project budgets. Reviewing actual costs against budgets and identifying variances. Required Qualifications Approximately 10 or more years of progressive accounting experience . Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and the full accounting cycle. Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements. Strong general-ledger, reconciliation, and financial-reporting capabilities. Ability to independently investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Advanced Excel or spreadsheet skills. Experience with modern accounting software. Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion. Proven ability to work independently and take ownership. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA designation or public-accounting experience. Construction, real estate, property, or development accounting experience. Experience with job costing, project budgets, construction draws, or work-in-progress reporting. Experience managing accounting across multiple companies or entities. Previous Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, Controller, or similar experience. Who We Are Looking For We are especially interested in candidates whose resumes demonstrate increasing responsibility, strong judgment, and the ability to handle complex accounting work without extensive supervision. The successful candidate will be accurate, dependable, highly organized, comfortable investigating inconsistencies, and capable of seeing both the details and the larger financial picture. We also value someone who can improve systems rather than simply maintain them. Remote and Hybrid Work King Built Properties is open to in-person, hybrid, or fully remote candidates depending on experience, qualifications, communication skills, and ability to work independently. Remote candidates must maintain dependable availability, participate in regular meetings, protect confidential information, and consistently meet reporting deadlines. Relocation assistance may be available for highly qualified candidates. Growth Opportunity This position has the potential to grow as the company expands.
Future advancement may include:
Accounting Manager Assistant Controller Controller Director of Finance Oversight of accounting staff and outside resources Greater involvement in budgeting, forecasting, financing, and strategic financial planning Compensation and Benefits $85,000-$150,000 annual salary based on experience, credentials, technical ability, industry experience, and level of responsibility. Significant long-term advancement opportunity.
