Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a Staff Accountant to support a non-profit organization based in Itasca, Illinois. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for an accounting specialist who enjoys balancing high-volume accounts payable work with broader general accounting responsibilities in a fully remote environment. The role will contribute to accurate financial operations, timely reporting, and consistent ledger maintenance while working with established accounting systems and processes.

Responsibilities:

• Process a high volume of accounts payable transactions with accuracy, ensuring invoices, coding, approvals, and payments are handled on schedule.
• Prepare and post journal entries to maintain complete and reliable financial records across assigned accounts.
• Reconcile general ledger activity and investigate discrepancies to support month-end and ongoing accounting accuracy.
• Assist with sales tax and corporate tax-related accounting tasks, including maintaining supporting documentation and preparing data for filings.
• Support general accounting activities by reviewing account balances, tracking transactions, and helping maintain compliance with internal policies.
• Work within Sage Intacct and Emburse to manage accounting workflows, payment activity, and reporting needs.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to resolve invoice issues, clarify expense coding, and improve day-to-day financial processing.
• Contribute to timely financial close activities and provide accounting support for additional projects as business needs require. Requirements
• Experience in staff accounting with significant exposure to both accounts payable and general ledger responsibilities.
• Working knowledge of journal entry preparation, account reconciliation, and month-end accounting procedures.
• Familiarity with corporate tax and sales tax processes, including support for compliance and reporting activities.
• Ability to maintain accuracy while managing a steady volume of transactional accounting work.
• Proficiency with accounting systems such as Sage Intacct and expense or AP platforms like Emburse is strongly preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize deadlines in a remote work environment.
• Clear communication skills for coordinating with internal teams and resolving accounting issues efficiently.
