Role Description The Staff Accountant role is a full-time remote position responsible for supporting the accounting and financial reporting needs of nonprofit clients. Day-to-day tasks include recording and reconciling transactions, processing accounts payable and receivable, maintaining general ledger accuracy, and assisting with month-end and year-end closing activities. The Staff Accountant will help prepare financial statements, budget reports, and grant-related financial documentation, while ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and internal controls. This role involves collaborating with senior finance staff, responding to client inquiries, and contributing to process improvements that enhance overall financial efficiency. Qualifications Strong foundation in general accounting principles, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation. Experience with nonprofit accounting practices, fund accounting, and grant reporting is highly beneficial. Proficiency with accounting software and spreadsheets (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, Excel or similar tools). Ability to analyze financial data, identify variances, and provide clear, accurate summaries to internal teams and clients. Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a remote work environment. Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders. High level of integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to accuracy and confidentiality. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or progress toward certification is a plus. Prior experience working with nonprofit organizations or mission-driven clients is preferred.
