Merchology seeks a Staff Accountant for our Finance team. Reporting to the Controller, the Staff Accountant plays a key role in contributing to the success of Merchology!
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES A
Staff Accountant will: Prepare and maintain timely and accurate balance sheet reconciliations, including variance analysis and resolution of reconciling items. Assist with the monthly close process, including preparation of journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, and supporting schedules. Prepare and post recurring and adjusting journal entries, including supporting documentation. Assist with preparation and review of monthly financial statements and management reports. Analyze account activity and investigate unusual or unexpected variances, escalating issues as appropriate. Assist with year-end audit activities, including preparation of account reconciliations, schedules, supporting documentation, and responses to audit requests. Assist with maintaining accounting documentation and internal controls. Review and reconcile Company banking and credit card transactions. Provide backup support for AR and AP functions, including customer collections, cash application, invoice processing, and other duties as needed. Assist other departments with ad hoc accounting and reporting requests. Prepare and file sales tax returns and assist with related reconciliations and compliance requirements. Participate in special projects and perform other accounting duties as assigned. Requirements 2-5 years of experience in an accounting position. Bachelor's or associate degree in accounting or related field. Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and fundamental accounting principles. Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze account activity and identify discrepancies. Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines. Collaborative and professional interpersonal skills. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to work with formulas, PivotTables, and large datasets. Experience with NetSuite or another ERP/accounting system preferred.
