Job Description

Overview We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to contribute to the accurate and timely management of financial records, ensuring compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and supporting our organization's financial health. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in accounting principles, experience with various financial software, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Duties Prepare, review, and analyze journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger transactions to ensure accuracy and completeness. Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice processing, payment scheduling, and collections management. Conduct balance sheet reconciliations regularly to verify account balances and identify discrepancies for prompt resolution. Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities, ensuring all financial data is accurate and compliant with GAAP standards. Support internal controls related to SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) compliance by documenting processes and performing audits as required. Utilize various financial software such as Workday, QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft, Ceridian, ADP, Kronos, UltiPro, Paychex, and others to streamline accounting operations. Perform data entry tasks with high accuracy using 10-key typing skills while analyzing Excel data for insights into financial trends. Contribute to governmental or non-profit accounting projects by adhering to specific regulations and reporting requirements. Assist with payroll management tasks using systems like ADP or UltiPro while ensuring proper tax calculations and deductions are applied. Support budgeting activities through account analysis, variance reporting, and cost control initiatives. Skills Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting standards combined with practical experience in corporate or governmental accounting environments. Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft, Ceridian, or similar platforms; familiarity with multiple systems enhances efficiency. Experience with SOX compliance procedures including documentation of internal controls and audit readiness. Skilled in Excel data analysis techniques for financial reporting and trend identification; advanced functions like pivot tables and VLOOKUP are advantageous. Excellent numeracy skills coupled with a keen eye for detail to perform account reconciliations and journal entries accurately. Familiarity with payroll systems such as ADP or UltiPro for payroll processing support; understanding of tax regulations is a plus. Ability to perform double-entry bookkeeping accurately while managing accounts payable/receivable workflows. Strong organizational skills for managing multiple tasks such as balance sheet reconciliation, account analysis, and month-end close procedures. Effective communication skills for collaborating across departments and supporting audit processes or compliance requirements.
