Staff Accountant Roessel Joy Boston, MA Job Details Full-time | Contract $30 - $35 an hour 3 hours ago Qualifications Sage Corporate accounting GAAP QuickBooks Budgeting Full Job Description Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for managing core accounting functions, ensuring compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), and supporting financial reporting processes. Your expertise will help maintain accurate financial records, facilitate audits, and contribute to the overall financial health of the organization. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with diverse accounting systems and software, including Workday, QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, and others, while applying your strong technical accounting skills and financial acumen. Experience:
2-4 years of general ledger and reconciliation experience.
Environment:
Prior experience in a nonprofit or visitor-attraction environment (museums, theaters, etc.) is highly preferred due to the specific revenue streams (admissions, pledges, gift store).
Systems:
Concur, Blackbaud/Financial Edge, Tessitura, Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Responsibilities Prepare and analyze journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and general ledger accounting to ensure accuracy and completeness. Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes using financial software such as Paychex, ADP, Kronos, Ceridian, UltiPro, and Paychex. Conduct detailed account reconciliations and review financial data for discrepancies or irregularities. Support month-end and year-end closing activities by preparing reports and performing data entry tasks with precision. Assist with internal controls compliance, including SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) procedures and audit preparations. Utilize Excel data analysis skills to interpret financial information, prepare spreadsheets, and generate insightful reports. Handle confidential information responsibly while maintaining high standards of accuracy and integrity in all accounting tasks. Experience Proven experience in corporate accounting or governmental accounting environments with a strong understanding of GAAP standards. Hands-on experience working with multiple accounting systems such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms. Familiarity with financial concepts including debits & credits, double-entry bookkeeping, budgeting, credit analysis, and journal entries. Knowledge of technical accounting practices related to public accounting or financial services industries is preferred. Demonstrated ability in Excel data analysis, spreadsheets management, and general ledger reconciliation. Strong numeracy skills combined with excellent attention to detail for accurate data entry and account management. Experience handling accounts payable/receivable processes along with customer service skills to support internal teams or external vendors.
