We are looking for a Staff Accountant who takes pride in getting it right and understands that sound financial management is what keeps a mission moving forward. This role sits within our Youth Services division and is responsible for the day-to-day financial operations that keep our organization running with integrity and efficiency. What You Will Do General Accounting & Ledger Management You will manage general ledger accounts, prepare monthly bank reconciliations, and support month-end and year-end close processes. You will verify, allocate, post, and reconcile financial transactions, maintain subsidiary accounts, and ensure balance sheet reconciliations are completed accurately and on time. Maintaining organized and compliant records across assets, liabilities, revenues, and expenditures will be a core part of your day. Financial Reporting You will assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and contribute to budget analysis and cost reporting. You will review financial data with leadership as needed and help tell the story behind the numbers in a way that supports informed decision making across the organization. Audit & Compliance ✅ You will play an active role in coordinating internal and external audits, preparing schedules and supporting documentation, and ensuring the organization remains in compliance with accounting principles, regulatory requirements, and internal policies. You will also support the development and strengthening of accounting controls and procedures. Vendor & Tax Reporting You will maintain vendor records including W-9 documentation, monitor 1099 compliance, and prepare annual 1099 reporting. Keeping vendor files accurate and complete will be part of your ongoing responsibility. Systems & Process Improvement ️ You will assist with accounting system maintenance and implementation, identify opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy, and participate in financial analysis and cost studies. What You Bring Education Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience A minimum of five years in accounting or financial operations with hands-on experience in general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting, and audit support. Prior experience in nonprofit, healthcare, human services, or multi-entity environments is a strong plus. Technical Skills Proficiency with computerized accounting systems, advanced Microsoft Excel skills, and a solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office. You should be comfortable preparing financial reports and reconciliations and have a strong grasp of accounting principles and financial controls. Who You Are You are analytical, organized, and deadline-driven. You handle confidential information with discretion and bring a high level of accuracy to everything you touch. You communicate clearly, work well independently and within a team, and you do not need to be reminded why the details matter. You care about where your work goes and who it ultimately serves. Additional Requirements Must be at least 21 years of age with a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Must be insurable under the organization's carrier and able to pass required background checks, Child Abuse Index clearance, drug screening, and physical examination as applicable. Working Conditions This is a hybrid role based out of Claremont, CA, with a mix of in-office and remote work. When on site you will work in a modern, well-lit professional environment with occasional travel between locations. Standard physical requirements apply including extended periods at a computer, occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, and the ability to operate standard office equipment and a motor vehicle.
