Our accounting team plays an important role in supporting the communities we manage and ensuring that our properties operate accurately, efficiently, and responsibly. We are seeking a Property Accountant to join our corporate accounting team in Warwick, RI. This position is responsible for maintaining the financial records of assigned properties, preparing financial reports, reconciling accounts, and working closely with property management and the accounting team to ensure accurate and timely financial information. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working independently, managing multiple priorities, and being part of a team whose work directly supports affordable housing communities. What You'll Do Maintain accurate financial records for assigned properties and entities. Prepare monthly financial statements, reports, and supporting schedules. Perform monthly bank, balance sheet, and general ledger reconciliations. Review financial activity and investigate discrepancies, unusual transactions, and variances. Review accounts payable and accounts receivable activity for accuracy and proper coding. Ensure invoices and other financial transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner. Work closely with Property Managers to resolve accounting questions, discrepancies, and coding issues. Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes. Prepare account analyses and supporting documentation for internal and external review. Assist with annual audits, tax reporting, and other financial compliance requirements. Maintain organized and accurate accounting documentation. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis as needed. Ensure accounting practices are consistent with applicable GAAP and company procedures. Communicate financial information and issues clearly to the Accounting and Property Management teams. Handle confidential financial information with professionalism and discretion. Perform other accounting duties and special projects as assigned. What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. 2+ years of accounting experience preferred; property accounting or real estate experience is a plus. Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and general ledger accounting. Familiarity with GAAP and financial reporting. Strong Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines. Ability to analyze financial information, identify discrepancies, and follow issues through to resolution. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Experience with accounting software or property management/accounting systems is a plus. The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is someone who is organized, accountable, analytical, and proactive . You don't simply enter numbers, you understand what you're looking at, recognize when something doesn't appear right, and take the initiative to investigate and resolve issues. You should be comfortable working with deadlines, managing multiple properties or accounts, communicating with Property Managers, and taking ownership of your work from start to finish. Experience in property management, real estate, affordable housing, or multi-entity accounting is highly valued, but we are also willing to consider candidates with strong general accounting experience who are eager to learn the property accounting environment.
