Company Overview Palmetto Railways, a growing Charleston based enterprise agency of the South Carolina Department of Commerce, is seeking an Accountant to join our team. Job Summary:
Palmetto Railways is seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to support the financial operations of a growing state-owned railroad. This position is responsible for processing payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, assisting with the monthly financial close, and providing administrative support to the Finance Department.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Perform payroll functions including entering employee time records and related data, reconciling payroll data, processing payroll payments, preparing reports for management Prepare routine journal entries related to payroll and accounts receivable Perform accounts payable function including reviewing and entering invoices into the accounting system with correct accounts, class codes, invoice dates and due dates, calculating sales tax as necessary, and preparing weekly payments Assist with filing credit card receipts and coding them to the proper account and class Perform revenue and accounts receivable functions including invoicing customers as necessary, posting deposits received, auditing and invoicing monthly operating charges, reviewing outstanding balances Assist with monthly and year-end financial reporting Assist with annual audit requests Provide front desk, phone back-up and other administrative duties as necessary Collaborate with team members to identify process improvements Perform other accounting and administrative tasks as needed or assigned by the Director of Finance & Administration and/or the
Vice President & Chief Financial Officer Required Skills/Abilities:
Team player with a strong attention to detail, accuracy, and efficiency Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion Ability to communicate effectively and to deal courteously and effectively with management, co-workers, customers, and vendors Bachelor's degree in accounting preferred. Two or more years of accounting experience preferred. Basic knowledge of GAAP; familiarity with GASB accounting principles is preferred. Ability to maintain confidentiality of payroll and personnel information. Ability to analyze and reconcile financial data. Proficient with Microsoft 365, including strong Microsoft Excel skills, and QuickBooks Valid SC driver's license required Must be able to qualify for a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) The duties listed are representative of the job; however, it in no way states or implies that these are the only duties a person may be required to perform.
