Job Description:
SHR Talent is partnering with a residential homebuilding client in Nashville, TN in its search for a Senior Accountant. This is a primarily onsite opportunity offering significant long-term growth potential for an experienced accounting professional who wants broad exposure to accounts payable, general ledger accounting, bank reconciliations, month-end close, and multi-entity accounting. The organization is seeking someone who is comfortable being hands-on in the details while developing a strong understanding of accounting operations within the residential construction and real estate industry. The Senior Accountant will work closely with accounting leadership and take ownership of accounting activities across multiple entities. Initially, the position will have a meaningful accounts payable component, including invoice processing and oversight; however, this is not solely an Accounts Payable position. Responsibilities will expand into entity-level accounting, general ledger activity, bank reconciliations, month-end processes, account analysis, financial reporting support, and accounting process improvements. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, accountable, and growth-minded accounting professional who can serve as a strong partner to accounting leadership while remaining willing to get into the details and handle day-to-day accounting responsibilities. This position offers significant opportunity to take on increasing responsibility over time and develop into a key member of the accounting function. The organization may also consider an experienced candidate seeking a reduced schedule of approximately 30+ hours per week.
Responsibilities:
Manage accounts payable and invoice processing across assigned entities, including reviewing invoices, ensuring appropriate coding and approvals, maintaining accurate records, and supporting timely payment processing Take ownership of accounting activities for select entities, including bank reconciliations, transaction review, general ledger activity, journal entries, account analysis, and monthly and year-end close processes Maintain accurate accounting records across a multi-entity environment while researching discrepancies, reconciling accounts, resolving accounting issues, and supporting accounting for related entities Partner with accounting leadership to improve accounting processes, internal controls, reporting, and workflows while supporting ongoing accounting and operational systems initiatives Develop a comprehensive understanding of residential construction and real estate accounting while taking on progressively broader accounting and financial responsibilities
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required CPA certification or progress toward CPA licensure preferred but not required 1-5+ years of previous professional accounting experience required, with Senior Accountant, Staff Accountant, General Ledger Accountant, or public accounting experience preferred Strong experience with accounts payable, bank reconciliations, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close processes Construction, residential homebuilding, real estate development, or other project-based accounting experience preferred but not required; experience working across multiple entities is a plus Proficiency with QuickBooks and/or Sage preferred; experience with construction or homebuilding accounting software is a plus Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and core accounting principles with excellent attention to detail and accuracy Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to independently prioritize responsibilities and take ownership of assigned work Humble, hands-on, and team-oriented approach with a willingness to work in the details, identify process improvements, support accounting leadership, and grow into increasingly complex accounting responsibilities
