Full-Time About Us Bicentennial Volunteers, Inc. (BVI) is a nonprofit corporation established in 1975 and committed to making a meaningful impact through service and support. We are seeking an experienced Controller/Senior Accountant to join our team and oversee financial operations in a dynamic, small-business environment. This role offers the opportunity to work independently, collaborate with executive leadership, and influence the financial strength of a mission-driven organization. The position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer. Position Overview The Controller/Senior Accountant will lead key financial functions, ensuring accurate reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and providing strategic financial insights. This role combines hands-on accounting responsibilities with high-level financial management. Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Manage the general ledger, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable to ensure timely and accurate processing.
  • Monitor cash flow and support management of banking relationships.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls to safeguard financial assets.
  • Coordinate external audits and assist with tax preparation and compliance.
  • Develop budgets, forecasts, financial models, KPIs, management dashboards and variance analysis.
  • Provide data-driven financial insights and recommendations to leadership.
  • Provides backup support for payroll processing to ensure continuity of operations as needed.
  • Complete special accounting projects, research and administrative duties as assigned.
  • Support insurance audits and applications.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual accounting and reporting processes.
  • Develop improved reporting using ERP systems, advanced Excel, Business intelligence tools, AI and other reporting and analysis tools and technology.
  • Ensure data integrity and appropriate financial controls are incorporated into new systems and processes.
  • Maintain strong accounting policies, procedures and internal controls. Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 7-10 years of relevant accounting or finance experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Intacct preferred) and Microsoft Office.
  • Multi-entity experience is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain high attention to detail.
