Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Lead the monthly closing process by preparing schedules, reviewing balances, and ensuring financial records are completed on time.
- Maintain the general ledger by recording, reviewing, and adjusting transactions to support accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation and attention to accounting standards.
- Reconcile bank accounts and key balance sheet accounts regularly to identify discrepancies and resolve issues promptly.
- Oversee account reconciliations across multiple areas of the business to strengthen accuracy and internal control.
- Support accounting activities tied to government contracts by tracking costs, maintaining compliance, and organizing required financial documentation.
- Generate financial reports and analysis using QuickBooks Online and Excel to assist leadership with operational and strategic decisions.
- Contribute to broader accounting oversight typically handled within a small company controller-style environment, including process improvement and financial organization. Requirements
- 5+ years of accounting experience, including senior-level ownership of core accounting functions.
- Strong working knowledge of month-end close procedures, general ledger maintenance, and journal entry preparation.
- Proven experience performing account reconciliations and bank reconciliations with a high degree of accuracy.
- Hands-on proficiency with QuickBooks Online in a business accounting setting.
- Experience supporting accounting work related to government contracts or government-focused financial requirements.
- Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to organize, analyze, and reconcile financial data efficiently.
- Ability to work independently in a small company setting while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
