Job DescriptionJob DescriptionHumCap's client is seeking an experienced Controller to help stabilize and strengthen the finance and accounting function for a growing, founder-led business based in Addison, TX. This is a highly hands-on, in-office (5 days/week) opportunity focused on tightening close processes, improving controls, and bringing clarity and leadership to an existing accounting team operating in QuickBooks. This role is expected to be an interim engagement (approximately 5-6 months ) with the potential to convert to a permanent position depending on business needs and the incoming CFO's long-term structure. Roles Provide hands-on leadership for day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring the team executes core accounting 'hygiene' consistently and accurately. Own the monthly close and delivery of timely, reliable and GAAP-compliant financial statements; drive process, controls, and documentation improvements to increase confidence in reporting. Oversee general ledger management, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance review; ensure issues are identified, prioritized, and resolved. Partner closely with the interim CFO (and ultimately the incoming CFO) to stabilize the function quickly and support ongoing operational and reporting needs. Manage and improve accounts payable, collections, and other routine transactional workflows; direct traffic and remove blockers for the team when senior leadership is offsite. Administer and help 'lock down' QuickBooks, ensuring consistent usage, appropriate access, and clean data to support accurate reporting. Contribute to building scalable processes and controls suitable for a growing, founder-led business; support special projects as needed. Position reports to the interim CFO; with a highly hands-on focus. Other duties as assigned Work Experience 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with prior Controller experience required Hands-on experience owning month-end close, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation Strong working knowledge of internal controls and accounting 'hygiene' (process compliance, documentation, and accuracy) Experience leading and prioritizing work for an accounting team; able to 'direct traffic' and provide day-to-day guidance Proficiency with QuickBooks required; able to quickly assess, tighten, and improve an existing QuickBooks environment Advanced PC and associated software program skills with emphasis on Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word Effective written and oral communication, interpersonal, and customer service/support skills Experience in private equity-backed or leveraged environments strongly preferred The ability to work independently, take ownership, and drive results in an in-office, fast-moving environment Education Requirements College Degree or equivalent work experience preferred; CPA Required
