Job Description

Staff Accountant Join the accounting team supporting one of the Southwest's growing residential homebuilders. Founded in 2006, Hakes Brothers has helped more than 7,000 families find their new homes and now operates across multiple markets. This position is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accountant who wants meaningful experience with month-end close, journal entries, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and multi-entity accounting. You will work closely with experienced accounting leaders and gain a broad understanding of the financial operations of a growing homebuilder. Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts, bank accounts, and corporate credit cards. Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close and financial reporting activities. Process and reconcile intercompany transactions across multiple entities. Review home-closing settlement statements and record related accounting activity. Verify daily cash deposits and investigate discrepancies. Review selected payment transactions and supporting documentation. Maintain accurate vendor and account records. Prepare schedules and documentation for external audits. Research general ledger discrepancies and recommend appropriate corrections. Help improve accounting processes, controls, and procedure documentation. What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Two or more years of accounting experience. Experience preparing journal entries and account reconciliations. Working knowledge of GAAP. Intermediate Excel skills, including formulas and pivot tables. Experience using an ERP or other accounting software. Strong attention to detail, organization, follow-through, and problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively across departments. Preferred, but Not Required Experience in homebuilding, construction, or public accounting. Experience supporting multiple legal entities. Interest in pursuing a CPA or continuing professional development. What Success Looks Like During your first six months, you will become proficient in assigned reconciliations and journal entries, develop a strong understanding of our close calendar and business operations, and begin identifying opportunities to make our accounting processes more efficient and accurate.
