Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join our client's construction-focused finance team in Texas. This permanent role is suited for a detail-oriented accounting specialist who can oversee core close activities, maintain reliable project cost reporting, and deliver accurate financial insight to support business decisions. The position plays a key role in strengthening financial controls, monitoring cash and debt activity, and partnering with operational teams across active construction projects.
Responsibilities:
  • Direct monthly close activities by preparing journal entries, recording accruals, and assembling financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Oversee the general ledger to ensure transactions are recorded accurately and align with construction accounting practices.
  • Administer project cost accounting from initial job setup through ongoing budget monitoring, tracking labor, material, subcontract, and overhead expenses.
  • Review cost performance against budgets, investigate variances, and work with project leaders to improve forecast accuracy.
  • Prepare and maintain work-in-progress reporting and support appropriate revenue recognition for construction contracts.
  • Track loan balances, financing activity, and interest-related entries, including amortization and scheduled payments.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and subsidiary records while resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Monitor cash activity and contribute to short-term and long-range cash flow planning.
  • Support audit preparation, maintain documentation, and help strengthen internal controls and finance processes.
  • Collaborate with operations, procurement, and project management teams while assisting with accounts payable, accounts receivable, retention tracking, fixed assets, payroll allocations, and tax-related accounting tasks.
