Federal Accountant (3+ Years of Experience)
Federal Accountant (3+ Years of Experience)We are seeking a motivated Federal Accountant to join our team supporting a key Federal agency's accounting operations. In this role, you will play a critical part in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the client's financial records by performing complex transaction analysis, system reconciliations, and Federal accounting functions with minimal supervision. You'll work alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative, fast-paced environment that values precision, accountability, and continuous learning. What will you do in this role:
- Analyze a large volume of accounting transactions with a high degree of accuracy, researching variances for root cause and preparing corrective entries in accordance with accounting principles
- Use SQL queries to research abnormal balances at the trial balance level and recommend corrective actions
- Reconcile general ledger to subsidiary ledger and across multiple data sources (e.g., travel, payroll, overseas data, feeder systems), including USSGL fund analytics
- Recommend accrual methodologies and validate accrued amounts across areas such as domestic invoices, overseas payments, and travel, in accordance with USSGL and GAAP
- Support annual financial statement audits, including reviewing financial documentation in large accounting data systems and responding to Prepared by Client (PBC) requests
- Provide Federal accounting services, including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and General Ledger support
- Establish, modify, and maintain accounting element tables, fields, and system records related to vendors, suppliers, and accounting codes
- Identify issues and recommend corrective actions to senior team members and client management, as appropriate.
- Meet critical deadlines while producing quality, detailed work product
Your qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field from an accredited university
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in Federal financial management, accounting, reporting, internal controls, financial systems, and program operations
- Working knowledge of USSGL, GAAP, and
FASAB/SFFAS
standards, along with Treasury requirements, OMB Circular A-123, FMFIA, and the CFO Act
- Skilled in reconciling general ledger to subsidiary ledger and across multiple data sources (e.g., travel, payroll, overseas data, feeder systems), including USSGL fund analytics
- Proficient in SQL queries to research abnormal trial balances and recommend corrective actions
- Experience with SAP/FBMS, Treasury systems, data analysis, process improvement, and automation preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Salary Range:
$75K-$100K Final compensation will be determined based on a range of factors, including relevant experience, education, work location, security clearance level, certifications, and other factors permitted by applicable law. Salary ranges listed reflect the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
