This position is eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, and 401(k). Job Description Addison Group is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant for an established organization in Brambleton, VA. This position will support general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close, financial reporting, and financial analysis across a diverse portfolio of business operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting foundation, previous experience within a real estate or construction environment, advanced Excel skills, and the ability to work effectively in a highly detailed and manual accounting environment. This position requires someone who takes ownership of their work, independently investigates discrepancies, and consistently reviews financial information for accuracy before submission. Responsibilities Maintain general ledger accounts and support day-to-day accounting activities. Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation. Perform detailed balance sheet and general ledger account reconciliations. Research, investigate, and resolve accounting discrepancies and reconciling items. Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes. Compile and analyze financial information to ensure transactions are properly recorded and classified. Prepare balance sheets, income statements, and other internal financial reports. Analyze assets, liabilities, revenues, expenses, and other financial activity. Review accounting records and financial reports for errors, inconsistencies, or unusual activity. Ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with U.S. GAAP and established accounting policies. Support accounting activities related to project costs and job costing. Assist with budgeting, financial analysis, and budget-to-actual variance analysis. Utilize Microsoft Excel extensively to prepare reconciliations, analyses, and financial reporting. Maintain detailed supporting schedules and accounting documentation. Assist with financial statement reviews and external audit requests. Prepare documentation and respond to questions from auditors as needed. Support appropriate accounting treatment for reserves, assets, expenditures, and other financial transactions. Work within manual accounting processes while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and organization. Identify opportunities to improve accounting procedures, reporting, and internal workflows. Assist with accounting system and process-improvement initiatives. Collaborate with accounting, finance, operations, and other internal business partners. Perform special projects and additional accounting analyses as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting required. Minimum of two years of applicable accounting experience required. Previous accounting experience within real estate or construction required. Job costing experience strongly preferred. Strong general ledger accounting experience. Experience with journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close. Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting principles. Experience working within a manual accounting environment required. Strong Microsoft Excel skills required, including formulas, PivotTables, and
VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP
functions. Experience preparing financial analyses and investigating accounting discrepancies. Experience with Yardi, MRI, or a comparable accounting/ERP system preferred. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to financial accuracy. Demonstrated ability to thoroughly review work and identify errors before submission. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to independently research and resolve accounting issues. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines. Professional and polished communication style. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
