Job Description

Description We are looking for a Staff Accountant to support core accounting activities for a client in Richmond, Virginia. This position is ideal for someone who is detail oriented and brings strong technical accounting skills, sound judgment, and the ability to stay organized in a busy environment. The person in this role will contribute to accurate financial reporting, routine reconciliations, and close-related activities while partnering with internal stakeholders to keep accounting operations running smoothly.
Responsibilities:
  • Record and post journal entries to maintain accurate financial data within the general ledger.
  • Perform regular reconciliations for bank activity and balance sheet accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies as needed.
  • Contribute to monthly and annual close cycles by preparing support schedules and helping finalize account balances.
  • Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable tasks to promote timely and accurate transaction processing.
  • Generate financial reports and provide support for reviewing trends, fluctuations, and budget-to-actual differences.
  • Uphold accounting policies and internal control standards by reviewing transactions for accuracy and procedural compliance.
  • Participate in audit preparation by organizing documentation and responding to requests for financial information.
  • Support assigned projects and additional accounting initiatives based on departmental priorities. Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of accounting experience in a business environment that requires close attention to detail.
  • Hands-on experience with sales tax, journal entries, general ledger accounting, month-end close, and account reconciliations.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting software platforms.
  • Ability to manage detailed work accurately while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
  • Effective communication skills with a practical, solution-oriented approach to problem-solving.
  • Solid organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple responsibilities with consistent attention to detail.
