We are seeking a highly organized and analytical Senior Accountant to oversee day-to-day financial operations, support strategic budgeting and reporting, and help ensure the long-term financial stewardship of a growing philanthropic organization. This role is ideal for someone who combines strong accounting expertise with systems thinking, operational excellence, and a commitment to service. Position Overview The Senior Accountant plays a key leadership role in maintaining the organization's financial integrity and operational effectiveness. Reporting to the CFO and working closely with senior leadership, this position manages accounting operations, budgeting, financial reporting, cash flow oversight, audits, internal controls, and financial analysis across multiple funds and affiliate relationships. The successful candidate will be both strategic and hands-on, and able to manage details while contributing to broader organizational goals. Key Responsibilities Financial Operations & Reporting Prepare timely and accurate financial statements and accounting reports for leadership review. Record, reconcile and acknowledge financial transactions, maintain general ledger accuracy, and prepare adjusting entries. Monitor revenue, expenses, and cash flow activity across organizational and affiliate accounts. Analyze budget variances and provide recommendations for corrective action. Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes. Managing Salesforce database and reporting requests. Coordinate tax filings, audits, and regulatory reporting in partnership with the CFO. Accounting Systems & Controls Maintain and improve accounting systems, procedures, and internal controls in compliance with approved Foundation policies including document retention protocols. Oversee chart of accounts management and proper financial coding. Ensure accurate allocation of investment income, fees, and fund restrictions. Verify data integrity and test updates to financial systems and databases. Maintain confidentiality and financial security through strong controls and documentation. Asset & Fund Management Monitor asset and liability accounts, reconciliations, insurance-related contributions, and payment schedules. Support administration of trusts, gift annuities, and other charitable financial vehicles. Perform annual spending policy calculations and maintain fund worksheets for affiliates and supporting organizations. Coordinate life insurance policy reviews and cash surrender value analyses with the CFO. Audit & Finance Committee Support Lead audit preparation and coordinate auditor requests across departments. Provide financial reporting and analysis for Board and committee meetings, including Investment, Audit & Finance, and Grants Committees. Maintain grants pool tracking, funding availability reports, and commitment schedules. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field. Minimum of 3 years of accounting or financial management experience. Experience in nonprofit, foundation, endowment, or philanthropic organizations preferred. Strong understanding of budgeting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite applications. Ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy, discretion, and professionalism. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is: Analytical and solutions oriented.
