Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join a public accounting team in New York. This position focuses on preparing and reviewing a wide range of tax filings while ensuring accuracy, regulatory compliance, and high-quality client service. The role also supports tax research, client communication, and collaboration with leadership on planning initiatives and special assignments.
Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, S corporations, fiduciaries, and trusts to confirm accurate reporting and compliance.
  • Prepare complex tax filings when needed, applying current tax rules and maintaining a high standard of completeness and precision.
  • Manage filing timelines across multiple engagements to ensure submissions are completed on schedule and in accordance with quality standards.
  • Conduct tax research and interpret applicable regulations to support return preparation, issue resolution, and client planning matters.
  • Investigate inconsistencies, missing details, and potential compliance concerns before returns are finalized and submitted.
  • Communicate directly with clients to collect financial information, explain tax matters, and address questions in a clear and thorough manner.
  • Review workpapers, depreciation schedules, trial balances, and financial statements to verify proper tax treatment and supporting documentation.
  • Mentor team members who are new to the role by providing feedback, sharing technical guidance, and assisting with training on tax processes and best practices.
  • Partner with managers and firm leadership on tax planning opportunities, client strategies, notices, audits, and other special projects.
  • Maintain organized tax records and use accounting and tax software effectively to manage a high volume of work throughout busy season and year-round.
