Type:
full-time Our client seeks a Senior Project Accountant to join their team. This role supports large-scale, complex projects across a national portfolio, partnering closely with finance and operational leaders to drive financial performance, ensure accurate reporting, and proactively manage risk. The position offers exposure to high-value, large projects and provides strategic input beyond traditional project accounting responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee financial management of large-scale projects, ensuring accurate and timely reporting from project setup through closeout Analyze Work in Progress (WIP) schedules, GMP billing, and business unit financials to identify risks and communicate financial impacts Partner with project managers to support monthly project status reviews and forecasting processes (e.g., cost projections and billing alignment) Participate in contract review and project handoff processes, providing strategic recommendations to maximize profitability and mitigate risk Monitor billing, collections, and at-risk accounts, proactively communicating issues to project teams and leadership Review project schedules, cost projections, and operational plans to identify budget and margin impacts Support audit processes and develop strategic responses to minimize risk and protect profitability Ensure project compliance requirements are met in coordination with internal stakeholders Assist in developing and improving standard operating procedures across the finance function Provide mentorship and guidance to junior accounting staff, supporting their development and training Contribute to broader accounting initiatives and cross-functional projects as needed
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience) 5+ years of experience in project accounting, preferably within construction or a related industry Strong understanding of GAAP and experience working with financial statements and WIP schedules Familiarity with contract language and ability to leverage contracts to drive financial outcomes Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with ERP/accounting systems Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment Excellent communication skills with a strong customer service mindset
