Job Title:
Senior Cost Accountant Job Description We are seeking a Senior Cost Accountant with a strong background in manufacturing accounting and ERP systems. This role offers significant growth opportunities in a small, close-knit team, where you'll have the chance to support multiple facilities and contribute to the analysis side of the job. Responsibilities Manage and maintain standard costing systems, including material, labor, and overhead allocation methodologies. Perform cost roll-ups, bill of materials analysis, and routing reviews to maintain accurate product costing structures for over 5,000 individual SKUs. Analyze cost of goods sold, manufacturing variances, purchase price variances, and production variances. Review and update standard costs, labor rates, and overhead rates to reflect operational changes. Track, analyze, and reconcile job costing of major tooling projects. Become a subject matter expert on production reporting processes to better understand their correlation and impact on financial results. Oversee inventory accounting for raw materials, work in process, and finished goods, ensuring accurate inventory valuation. Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual inventory reconciliations and support physical inventory counts. Analyze slow-moving and/or obsolete inventory and prepare reserves accordingly. Monitor the cycle count program and make suggestions for improvements if weaknesses are noted. Maintain the company's fixed asset records, ensuring that additions and disposals are accounted for accurately and timely. Ensure that depreciation schedules are accurate and consistent with assigned useful lives. Maintain the company's capex approval models and collaborate with requestors to draft justifications that include ROI, IRR, and Payback analysis. Analyze cost of product sales (margin analysis), investigate unusual items, and recommend changes in BOMs or potential for margin improvements, such as the need for price increases. Assist the Sales department with pricing reviews and product costing inquiries. Become a power user of the ERP system as it relates to product costing, BOM and routing structures, variance reporting, project accounting, production reporting, and general ledger. Develop BI analytics and reporting for both the ERP system and other third-party software. Post journal entries, analyze and reconcile accounts, and participate in month-end closing and analysis. Assist in the completion of annual budgets and periodic forecasting. Support annual audits and tax returns. Identify continuous improvement opportunities in both accounting and non-accounting processes. Lead or actively participate in continuous improvement projects, utilizing CI and Problem-solving techniques including LEAN and Six Sigma. Essential Skills Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Accounting. 2-3 years of cost accounting experience. Experience working in a manufacturing environment. General accounting experience including processing journal entries, account accruals, reconciliations, month-end closing, and annual budgets. Manufacturing accounting experience, including standard costing, manufacturing variances, inventory control, and fixed assets. Experience using an ERP system that integrates production with accounting; IQMS experience is a plus. Power user of Excel and other report writing software. Experience in a continuous improvement environment that utilizes LEAN/Six Sigma concepts. Strong written and verbal communication skills with cross-functional teams and colleagues. Analytical thinker with demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Additional Skills & Qualifications BI experience. High volume experience. Desire to learn and apply LEAN/Six Sigma concepts. Work Environment This position is fully onsite, requiring 40 to 50 hours a week. You will be part of a small, close-knit team with the opportunity to wear many hats and support multiple facilities. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Butler, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.87 - $48.08/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
