Job Description

Join Our Team Rands Trucking is looking for a Staff Accountant to join our team and play an important role in our company's financial operations. This position is a great opportunity for an accounting professional who wants to take on meaningful responsibility while learning directly from an experienced Chief Financial Officer. The Staff Accountant will work side-by-side with our CFO for the next several years as part of a planned long-term transition. This individual will gain hands-on knowledge of our accounting, payroll, financial reporting, banking, audits, and overall financial operations, with the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility as the CFO approaches retirement. What You'll Do Payroll & Employee Accounting Process biweekly payroll, including wages, deductions, adjustments, and related data entry. Maintain accurate payroll records, including insurance, 401(k), garnishments, vacation, raises, exemptions, and other payroll changes. Process payroll-related tax and withholding requirements. Assist employees with W-2 and 1099 questions. Administer the company's 401(k) and cafeteria pre-tax benefit plans. Accounting & Financial Operations Assist with accounts receivable, bookkeeping, banking, and financial reporting. Match incoming payments to invoices and prepare bank deposits. Prepare and distribute financial reports generated through TruckMate. Work closely with the CFO on financial projects, reporting, budgeting, banking, and accounting activities. Coordinate with outside accounting professionals, including WIPFLI. Audit & Compliance Gather, organize, and provide payroll and financial information for company audits. Prepare payroll reports, employee records, wage information, tax documentation, and other requested audit materials. Assist with responding to auditor requests and ensuring information is accurate and provided on time. Maintain organized records to support audits and financial reporting. CFO Transition & Development Work directly with the CFO to learn the company's financial systems, processes, and practices. Develop a comprehensive understanding of the company's financial operations and institutional knowledge. Gradually take on additional financial responsibilities as knowledge and experience grow. Participate in cross-training and documentation of key financial processes. Help ensure a smooth transition of financial responsibilities as the CFO approaches retirement.
What We're Looking For Preferred:
Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field. Accounting, payroll, bookkeeping, or financial operations experience preferred. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Strong mathematical and analytical abilities. Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling payroll and financial information. Ability to meet recurring payroll and financial deadlines. Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently while also collaborating closely with company leadership. Willingness to learn all aspects of the company's financial operations. Desire to grow into a long-term financial leadership role. Why This Position Is Different This isn't simply a payroll or bookkeeping position. As the CFO approaches retirement, you will be positioned to take on greater responsibility and play an important role in the future of Rands Trucking. Physical Requirements This position regularly requires sitting, standing, use of hands, reaching, talking, and listening. Occasionally, the position may require lifting or moving items weighing approximately 10-25 pounds.
