Job Title:
Accounting & Administrative Support Clerk Job Summary:
Sims Brothers Recycling is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounting Clerk to join our team in Marion, Ohio. This role will be crucial in supporting the daily financial operations of our scrap metal recycling business. The ideal candidate will be responsible for processing financial transactions, maintaining accurate records, and providing administrative support to the accounting department. This position requires a strong understanding of basic accounting principles, excellent data entry skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment unique to the scrap industry.
Responsibilities:
Sort, organize, and distribute incoming hauler paperwork, for accounts including but not limited to Shelby, Cooke, Knucklehead, etc.
Shipper processing:
Verify and enter pricing, utilize vendor portals to retrieve weight slips & auxiliary shipping documents. manage necessary documentation and post shipper records.
Receiver processing:
Verify and enter pricing, apply fuel surcharges (FSC) as required, utilize vendor portals to retrieve weight slips & receive documents, manage necessary documentation and post receiver records. Distribute purchase, receiver, shipper, and invoice tickets along with statements to the appropriate accounts. Prepare, verify, and invoice monthly trash billing accounts accurately.
• Generate daily/weekly/monthly/ad hoc customer reports. Manage comprehensive Whirlpool accounts by locating, entering, correcting, and posting tickets and monthly batches for all regional locations. Accurately enter mill, brokered, and miscellaneous operational tickets into the system. Processing daily deposits. Order, verify, and securely reconcile cash from the bank. Compile and submit weekly RTA inspection and mileage reports on schedule. Perform other administrative, accounting and operational duties as assigned by management. Peddler-Scale Backup Duties Process customer scrap purchases accurately and efficiently during breaks and PTO coverage. Work rotating Saturday shifts from 8:00 AM to Noon as scheduled. Handle transactions securely, accepting cash, checks, credit cards, or debit payments. Issue receipts, refunds, credits, and cash change to customers. Maintain accurate cash drawers by verifying correct change is always available. Open and close scale registers according to designated company procedures. Provide friendly customer service. Maintain clean and organized checkout areas.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree in accounting or a related field is a plus. Proven experience in an accounting clerk role or similar data entry/administrative position. Proficiency in data entry with a high degree of accuracy and speed. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. Experience with accounting software is preferred Strong organizational and time-management skills. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial information. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Familiarity with the scrap metal industry is a plus but not required.
