Job Description
Work Shift Day Scheduled Weekly Hours 40 Summary This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by performing individual internal audit projects and assisting Internal Audit management as part of the total internal audit plan. Job Description Job Duties Interacts with MSC's managers, departments, and staff in a professional, positive, and constructive manner to facilitate good working relationships. Prepares audit programs to identify key areas and determine appropriate testing. Performs the audit in a professional manner with an understanding of the need for clear communications with staff and management during the entire audit process. During the audit, responds to developments or findings by adjusting or extending testing as appropriate or as directed by the Manager of Internal Audit. Develops effective and practical recommendations for audit findings. Prepares workpapers consistent with departmental policy and ensure they document and support all work performed and conclusions made. Drafts audit reports, ensuring audit objectives are met, conclusions are documented and supported, and recommendations are clear, concise, and practical. Performs follow-up procedures to determine whether recommendations have been implemented. May assist with processes and analyses used to audits medical records for compliance with applicable standards. Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Ability to develop and maintain a positive, professional relationship with staff and management at all levels. Auditing skills and a general understanding of internal controls. Strong verbal, written communication and presentation skills. Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with software such asMicrosoft Windows, Word, Excel Preferred:
Experience in a healthcare setting. Advanced proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite. Professional Experience Minimum of 1 year of audit or related experience preferred. Should possess an understanding of general audit procedures and internal controls. Education A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Licensure, Certification, Registration One or more certifications as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) or others such as Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC), RHIT, RHIA, CCA, or CCS-P is preferred.
