This role is ideal for a public accounting specialist who can manage audit priorities independently, strengthen file quality, and contribute to timely regulatory filings. The consultant will play a key role in reviewing engagement documentation, assisting with financial reporting deliverables, and advising team members in a deadline-driven environment.
Responsibilities:
Lead and evaluate audit documentation for employee benefit plan engagements to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards. Prepare and refine workpapers while resolving technical and file-related issues that could affect engagement progress or reporting quality. Contribute to the drafting and finalization of financial statements and related audit deliverables tied to filing deadlines. Support surprise examination procedures by organizing testing activities, reviewing evidence, and helping maintain audit readiness. Provide day-to-day guidance to staff preparing audit files, offering direction on documentation standards and issue resolution. Identify audit findings, assess their significance, and communicate recommendations clearly to support effective follow-up. Coordinate multiple assignments in a fast-paced setting while maintaining strong focus and consistent deliverable quality. The ideal candidate will have the following skill set: At least 7 years of audit experience, including substantial work in public accounting environments. Demonstrated background in employee benefit plan audits and related financial reporting requirements. Strong knowledge of financial, operational, and compliance audit practices. Proven ability to review workpapers thoroughly and troubleshoot complex audit file issues independently. Experience supporting or preparing financial statements as part of audit engagements. Comfortable working under tight deadlines in a Contract role that requires a high level of self-direction. Clear communication skills with the ability to coach preparers and discuss audit findings effectively.
