Job Description
Some firms say, "We offer flexibility." Okay... and? If flexibility still needs to be approved every time you leave early for an appointment, or working from home feels like a favour rather than the norm, is it really flexible? This firm doesn't make a big song and dance about it. They simply trust their people. That trust means you'll have the freedom to manage your work like a professional, without unnecessary check ins, layers of approval, or office days for the sake of being seen. You'll work directly with Partners, build genuine client relationships, and get involved in the full audit process instead of becoming responsible for one small piece of it. The firm is large enough to offer interesting clients but small enough that your ideas are heard and your contribution actually matters. The role is predominantly remote, with occasional travel to clients or the office when it makes sense. Add in reduced summer hours and flexible scheduling throughout the year, and it's easy to see why people tend to stay. The client base is a mix of nonprofit organisations and privately owned businesses, giving you plenty of variety without feeling like you're constantly starting from scratch with every engagement. You'll lead audit engagements from planning through completion, review work prepared by junior staff, mentor less experienced team members, work directly with clients, prepare compilations and reviews, assist with business tax work connected to audit clients, and help keep engagements on track from both a budget and timeline perspective. What they're looking for CPA or CPA track preferred 3+ years of public accounting audit experience Experience within a CPA firm Nonprofit experience Single Audit or Yellow Book experience would be beneficial Someone who enjoys building client relationships, supporting junior staff, and working as part of a collaborative team Why people make the move Mostly remote working with minimal travel Reduced summer hours Flexible scheduling throughout the year Strong compensation and bonus potential Direct access to Partners Interesting nonprofit and middle market clients A friendly, down to earth team where people know each other Regular training and professional development Modern technology and systems Clear opportunities to progress without unnecessary layers of management If you're just browsing the job boards and you haven't dusted off your resume yet, that's not a problem. Give me a call first on 312-564-5028. Or, if you prefer, send me a connection request or message on LinkedIn (Lucy Weibel at Distinct), and we can chat there instead. If you're in accounting and unsure whether to apply because you don't meet every single requirement, I would still encourage you to apply. We work with CPA firms that are committed to building diverse, inclusive workplaces, and if this role is not quite right, there is a good chance I will be working on another opportunity that is.
