Director, Audit Services Position Summary The Staff Auditor reports to the Director of Audit Services to support the function in providing independent and objective assurance and advisory services to the school district. The Staff Auditor is responsible for conducting all phases of financial, operational, IT, and compliance audits as assigned, to include report writing. This role evaluates internal controls, ensures compliance with federal and Virginia state regulations, and assesses the integrity of financial and operational systems and processes. The auditor will work closely with internal teams, including Finance, Procurement, HR, Payroll, and IT. The successful candidate will be a self-starter possessing thorough knowledge of auditing and accounting practices and procedures and experience in financial and IT systems. Responsibilities Execute financial, operational, compliance, and IT audits in accordance with the approved risk-based FY Audit Plan. Apply professional auditing principles and standards in the review of organizational processes, controls, and systems. Perform audit fieldwork activities, including interviewing/walkthroughs, creating end-to-end process flows, performing risk and control analysis, conducting appropriate testing, and obtaining supporting documentation. Review financial and operational processes for adequate controls, efficiencies, and compliance with policies, regulations and accounting principles to identify issues and make sound recommendations. Identify potential gaps, risks, and weaknesses in ERP systems, platforms, and provides recommendations for remediation and/or process improvement to ensure effective and efficient operations. Complete engagements within established time frames and keep supervisor informed of status. Prepare formal written draft reports, in accordance with established format with detailed supporting evidence. KSAs Possesses analytical and project management skills. Ability to analyze and interpret data and provide meaningful assessments for reporting and management decision-making. Ability to multi-task and prioritize deadlines. Possess strong professional judgement and maintains a high degree of transparency and integrity. Displays a strong work ethic with ability to adapt to changing priorities. Ability to work as a team member and support the organization in its strategic goals and mission. Possesses a solid understanding of internal audit and control principles, financial and operational processes, governance, and risk management. Understanding of Financial Management Systems (FMS) and Financial Accounting Systems (FAS), including understanding of general ledger accounting, budget development, accounts payable, procurement, and financial reporting processes within a public sector or K-12 environment. Familiarity with grant management and auditing, including compliance, budgeting, and financial reporting requirements. Qualifications A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from a four-year college or university 3-5 years of experience in accounting, internal audit, or finance/financial systems preferably in the public education sector Experience with ERP/Financial Management Systems such as LINQ, Tyler Munis, Skyward, SAP ERP, etc., enterprise procurement systems (EPES), and budgeting systems Experience with COSO, COBIT, and GRC frameworks Knowledge of GAAP/GASB and fund/grant accounting We encourage candidates to apply even if they do not meet every qualification, as we value a combination of education, experience, and transferable skills and will consider equivalent backgrounds.
