  • 141 0426 Department Auditor's Office Division Elections Opening Date 04/01/2026 Closing Date 4/19/2026 11:59 PM Pacific Description Benefits Questions Summary The Auditor's Office has a vacancy for the position of Clerk III in the Elections Division.
Performs a variety of duties to support elections and related functions, including first point of contact for telephone, electronic and walk-in customers. Performs complex and diverse office, clerical and secretarial support functions to facilitate the workflow and to assist in departmental activities. Responsible for distinct areas of responsibility including internal and external communication, service to the public, recording and retrieval of data and/or information and other paperwork required in an office. Functions as a member of a team performing routine and complex level work. Works under limited direction.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Performs voter registration to include local and integration with the statewide Voter Registration Data Base, monitors and reviews reports related to registration. Works cooperatively with the Secretary of State's office. Performs as mail ballot inspection/duplicating auditor and works closely with temporary staff hired to perform this function. Monitors and assists temporary staff with ballot receipt and processing. Cross-trains and works in other divisions of the Auditor's Office, as assigned, particularly the Recording Division. Plans and arranges own work sequences and routines and uses resources effectively. Plans clerical details such as the design, layout, and production of forms, newsletters, notices and other printed materials and the order of task performance Identifies customer needs, explains services clearly and promptly responds to requests. Evaluates priorities and independently addresses diverse matters, inquiries and complaints. Provides technical information and resolves issues related to area of assignment. Seeks technical assistance from various state and local agencies to answer unique or complicated questions outside the scope of experience. Answers, screens or routes telephone inquiries. Searches for or assists others to locate documents, records and other public information related to area of assignment. Uses available technology and equipment to obtain data. Reviews documents for compliance with state and/or federal requirements and accuracy of payments. Indexes and/or images relevant information. Assists with the development of office policies, procedures, workflow, routines and systems, as assigned.
ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES
Assists with special projects, as assigned. Cross-trains in other divisions of the Auditor's Office, as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned and provides backup, working closely with other employees and supervisor.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must obtain certification as a Certified Election Administrator per WAC 434-260-220, after two years of service in the election division and maintain throughout employment. Must take an oath as Deputy Auditor. Attends Washington State Elections Conference as assigned.

Salary Range:
$21.60
  • $32.75 MCBA

0 Hiring rate depends on qualifications. This position receives annual pay increases to the next step in the associated salary range (apx. 3.8%) subject to satisfactory performance, in addition to any negotiated Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA). We are required by State Law to list the full salary range. As a public entity and in a union-covered position, we are required to make pay decisions based on experience, qualifications, and equity with other employees. Hiring rate typically is limited to entry to mid of the posted salary range, subject to required approvals. Qualifications Requires a high school diploma or GED AND three (3) years of progressively responsible general office, clerical and/or secretarial experience. Certification as a Certified Election Administrator is desired (must obtain this within three years of employment and maintain throughout employment). Completion of college-level computer courses in database, spreadsheet and word processing is desirable. Requires the ability to type accurately and proficiently with a speed of 40 net words per minute and perform data entry at 130 net strokes per minute. Background check must meet County criteria. Must pass job-related tests.
