Job Description
We are looking for a detail-focused Bookkeeper to join our team in Tempe, Arizona in a contract-to-permanent capacity. This role supports day-to-day accounting operations while helping maintain accurate financial records, tax compliance, and reliable reporting across the business. The ideal candidate brings solid knowledge of core bookkeeping practices, can work confidently with changing business needs, and communicates financial requirements clearly to both leadership and cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate financial records by processing routine bookkeeping transactions and supporting accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliation activities.
- Prepare journal entries, review ledger activity, and help keep the chart of accounts organized and updated to reflect current business operations.
- Apply accounting knowledge to distinguish between operational purchases and resale-related materials for proper financial treatment.
- Review estimates, invoices, and related documents to confirm tax treatment is correct and resolve discrepancies when needed.
- Track changes to applicable city, county, and state tax rates and update accounting or invoicing systems to keep calculations current.
- Prepare and submit sales tax, transaction privilege tax, and use tax filings in a timely and accurate manner.
- Research tax exemptions, maintain supporting documentation, and help ensure records meet audit and compliance expectations.
- Communicate accounting and tax-related guidelines to internal teams and support process adjustments as products, staffing, software, or revenue models evolve.
- Monitor compliance obligations and identify when additional registrations, licenses, or accounting procedures may be necessary to support the business.
