Job Description

We are looking for a versatile Bookkeeper to support a small municipal office in California. This contract opportunity with potential for a permanent role combines accounting support, public-facing administrative coordination, and executive assistance in a collaborative three-person City Hall environment. The ideal candidate brings strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage financial tasks while supporting city operations, records, and public inquiries.
Responsibilities:
  • Manage day-to-day bookkeeping activities, including maintaining accurate financial records and supporting routine accounting functions.
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, ensuring timely entry, tracking, and follow-up.
  • Prepare payroll-related documentation, assist with tax form administration, and help maintain compliance with reporting deadlines.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and compile supporting financial data for insurance underwriting and other administrative reporting needs.
  • Provide front desk coverage by greeting visitors, responding to general questions, and directing inquiries appropriately.
  • Organize and maintain official files, records, and clerical documentation to support efficient office operations and public access requirements.
  • Assist with business license processing, public records requests, and other municipal administrative services.
  • Coordinate meeting materials for City Council and Planning matters, including agenda preparation and recording minutes.
  • Support election-related administrative tasks and provide executive-level assistance to city leadership as needed.
