Position Summary The Accounting Specialist supports day-to-day accounting and financial operations for a growing residential property rental company. Suited for an accounting professional with 2-4 years of experience, this role covers full-cycle accounting, property-level financials, U.S. tax/payroll compliance, and month-end closing, working directly with company leadership and external advisers. Key Responsibilities
General Ledger & Closing:
Maintain accurate GL records, process journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and perform month-end and year-end closing procedures.
Property & Tenant Accounting:
Reconcile rental income, tenant balances, and security deposits. Track property operating expenses, maintenance, utilities, and capital expenditures (CapEx).
Accounts Payable & Receivable:
Manage vendor invoice processing, payments, and supplier statement reconciliations. Oversee tenant billing, rental collection monitoring, and AR aging schedules.
Cash & Bank Management:
Perform routine bank reconciliations, monitor cash flow balances, investigate discrepancies, and assist with short-term cash forecasting.
Payroll & Tax Compliance:
Coordinate U.S. federal, California, and local payroll processing with external providers. Maintain tax compliance calendars, support tax filings, and coordinate with external CPAs.
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
Prepare monthly management accounts, balance sheet/income statement schedules, and actual-vs-budget variance analyses.
Fixed Assets & Audit Support:
Maintain fixed asset registers, record depreciation, appropriately classify repairs vs. CapEx, and prepare schedules for external audit and review.
Processes & Controls:
Maintain standard accounting workflows for AP, AR, collections, and closing. Identify process gaps and implement practical control improvements.
Qualifications & Experience Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
Experience:
2-4 years of hands-on accounting experience. Experience in residential property rentals, property management, or real estate strongly preferred.
Core Accounting Skills:
Solid command of full-cycle accounting (GL, AP, AR, bank reconciliations, month-end close, and financial statement preparation). U.S.
Compliance:
Working knowledge of
U.S. GAAP, U.S.
federal and California tax standards, and payroll processing requirements.
Software & Tools:
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
Preferred Assets:
Accounting qualification (CPA, CMA) or progressing towards one and experience collaborating with external CPAs, tax advisers, or payroll providers. Key Competencies & Attributes

Pay:
$25.00 - $30.00 per hour Expected hours: 20.0 - 30.0 per week
