full-time Bethany Insurance is seeking an experienced Insurance Accounting Specialist to support the financial operations of our growing independent insurance agency. This position requires hands-on accounting experience within Applied Epic and a strong understanding of agency bill and direct bill accounting. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable reconciling complex transactions while working closely with carriers, brokers, vendors, producers, and internal service teams. Key Responsibilities Manage accounts payable, including reviewing invoices, issuing payments, and maintaining accurate vendor records. Process accounts receivable transactions and follow up on outstanding client balances. Record and reconcile client payments, carrier payments, commissions, refunds, and return premiums. Perform agency bill reconciliations, including matching client payments to carrier statements and ensuring premiums are remitted accurately and on time. Perform direct bill commission reconciliations by comparing carrier statements with commission activity recorded in Applied Epic. Research and resolve discrepancies involving premiums, commissions, fees, endorsements, cancellations, and policy transactions. Maintain accurate accounting records and documentation within Applied Epic. Process producer commission transactions and assist with commission reconciliation and reporting. Monitor aged receivables and coordinate collection efforts with account management and production teams. Assist with month-end closing procedures, account reconciliations, and financial reporting. Communicate with insurance carriers, wholesalers, finance companies, and internal team members to resolve accounting issues. Support accounting audits and provide requested documentation. Follow established internal controls and help identify opportunities to improve accounting processes. Required Qualifications Three or more years of accounting experience within an independent insurance agency. Hands-on experience using Applied Epic accounting functions. Working knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable. Experience reconciling both direct bill and agency bill transactions. Experience supporting month-end and year-end accounting processes. Knowledge of commercial and personal lines insurance transactions. Strong understanding of insurance premiums, commissions, endorsements, cancellations, return premiums, and carrier statements. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications. Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy. Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet accounting deadlines. Ability to handle sensitive financial information with discretion and confidentiality.
