Job Description
Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Bookkeeper to support a nonprofit organization in Washington, District of Columbia. This Long-term Contract position will manage core accounting activities, help maintain accurate financial records, and support timely payroll and month-end close processes. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a hands-on environment, can address a backlog of accounting entries, and is available to work on-site part of the week.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day bookkeeping activities, ensuring financial transactions are recorded accurately and consistently.
- Process payroll in a timely manner while maintaining compliance with organizational policies and reporting requirements.
- Manage accounts payable by reviewing invoices, preparing payments, and keeping vendor records up to date.
- Handle accounts receivable activities, including invoicing, payment tracking, and follow-up on outstanding balances.
- Perform bank and account reconciliations during month-end close to support accurate financial reporting.
- Enter and organize outstanding transaction data in QuickBooks Online to resolve existing record backlogs.
- Maintain orderly financial documentation and assist with general accounting support as needed. Requirements
- Proven experience in bookkeeping with responsibility for payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- Hands-on proficiency with QuickBooks, including QuickBooks Online data entry and account maintenance.
- Strong understanding of bank reconciliations and month-end accounting procedures.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Experience supporting nonprofit accounting functions is preferred.
- Availability to work on-site in Washington, District of Columbia, particularly Tuesday through Thursday.
