Job Description

ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN SC-PAY GRADE 9 DUTIES AND FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The incumbent in this position performs a variety of general accounting support tasks in the Accounting Department including verifying and entering accounts payable, clerical duties, and responding to payment inquiries from other departments and vendors. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Manger of Accounting.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
Verifies, reviews, and processes accounts payable transactions accurately and timely using automated and AI-enabled systems; monitors accounts payable workflows and system outputs; researches, analyzes, and resolves discrepancies, exceptions, outstanding invoices, and past-due balances; reviews and processes employee reimbursement requests; communicates with County departments and vendors to resolve accounting and billing matters; maintains accurate and comprehensive financial records and filing systems; supports the effective operation of automated accounts payable systems by monitoring transactions, identifying exceptions, and reporting system or workflow issues; performs general administrative duties, including answering telephone calls, responding to emails, processing mail, and ordering office supplies; and performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the policies and procedures of the department; knowledge of the principles and practices of office management, planning, organization, accounting administration; ability to communicate effectively and handle complaints tactfully and thoroughly; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, department heads, vendors, representatives from other agencies and the general public; strong ability to pay close attention to detail; knowledge of basic business math.
QUALIFICATONS
Minimum of High School Diploma or GED with at least two (2) years' experience in Accounting or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; good verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent customer service and organizational skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and computerized accounting software, ERP systems and spreadsheets.
