Accounting Specialist

Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to join this county tax collector and state motor vehicle office! In this vital role, you will be responsible for managing a wide range of accounting functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance across all financial activities. Your expertise will support the organization's financial health by handling daily bookkeeping, account reconciliations, and financial data analysis with precision and professionalism. Responsibilities Perform general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account analysis, and balance sheet reconciliation to maintain accurate financial records. Manage accounts payable and receivable processes using QuickBooks. Conduct account reconciliation tasks, ensuring all debits & credits align with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and governmental standards. Utilize spreadsheets and Excel data analysis techniques to review financial data and prepare detailed reports and analysis of tax and DMV collections and distributions. Handle confidential information with integrity while performing data entry and bookkeeping duties efficiently. Support controls related to compliance with governmental statutes and assist with audit preparations as needed. Processing of weekly payroll and payroll related governmental reporting requirements. Processing and analysis of county tax related payments and distributions using a specialized tax collection software program. Qualifications Proven experience in accounting and finance roles with strong knowledge of standard and/or governmental accounting standards. A high level of proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks. Proficiency in MS Office applications especially the ability to create and work within complex Excel worksheets. Extensive knowledge of financial concepts including debits & credits, journal entries, account reconciliation, and general ledger management. Experience working with QuickBooks payroll system is highly desirable. Strong numeracy skills coupled with excellent attention to detail for data entry and account analysis tasks. Ability to handle sensitive information discreetly while demonstrating high levels of accuracy in bookkeeping and balance sheet reconciliation. Willingness to complete and pass a government required background check as a precursor of employment. Excellent communication skills along with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment. Pay:
$24.09 - $29.01 per hour
